Kennesaw State University is now accepting applications for the position of Chair in the Department of Psychology. This is a 12-month, tenure track position with the possibility of tenure upon appointment.

The Chair is responsible for overseeing the budget and fiscal management; faculty mentoring, workload, performance management, and compensation recommendations; selection and direction of an Assistant Chair; course scheduling and coordination of student advisement; advocating for and representing the department with KSU administration; networking on campus and in the KSU community; and supervising administrative personnel. The Chair is also expected to help strengthen the department’s ties with the professional community, promote scholarship, build and maintain successful teams, and cultivate external support for departmental activities. Teaching is expected, though actual teaching load is negotiable.

The department seeks a dynamic and innovative Chair who is committed to shared governance, academic freedom, and transparency, and who fosters collaboration and collegiality. The Chair should be experienced in providing annual reviews, facilitating the promotion and tenure process, and mentoring junior faculty. The ideal candidate will be a strong advocate for the department who will articulate a clear and compelling vision for the department’s future and be capable of leading a diverse and collegial team of faculty and staff. Other qualifications that will be taken into consideration include experience in teaching and/or developing hybrid and online courses, and a demonstrated track record of obtaining external funding.

Required Education - Experience - Skills (Minimum Qualifications):

The successful candidate must have the following:

An earned doctorate in psychology, a related discipline, or the foreign equivalent. Applicants with the training, ability, and/or experience equivalent to the minimum degree may be considered.

A record of successful administrative and/or leadership experience in a department, college, or university setting;

An active, collaborative leadership style that incorporates effective organizational development and communication skills;

A record of excellence in teaching, scholarship, and professional service commensurate with the rank of associate or full professor; and

A record of promoting diversity, inclusion, and global engagement.
